Biography
Jill Daw
Painter
I was born and raised in the village of Fenwick, in the heart of the Niagara Peninsula. My childhood was spent roaming the orchards and woodlots, on foot or on horseback, in a pack of cousins, friends, and dogs. A love of our natural world — landscapes, birds, plants, and animals — developed through living there and spending time in northern Ontario. I spent my career teaching primary students in Muskoka, Sudbury, and London, ON.
I was very fortunate to live for five years on the rural country property where I grew up. Every time I stepped outside, I discovered a new idea for a painting.
I now reside In Barrie, Ontario and enjoy spending time walking the local trails with my dog. I am discovering many new painting ideas in this gorgeous area.
My artwork is inspired by the way that shadow dapples the landscape in a myriad of shapes and affects the colour of objects. I create works in acrylic, oil, pastel and mixed media. Subjects are varied, including architecture, nature, and portraiture. An active member of the Barrie Art Club, I exhibit my work and participate in workshops with visiting artists, always striving to improve my craft.
